The first Edward Carpenter Community events took place at Laurieston Hall. Over the years, we have found other venues that have allowed us to offer our members a wider variety of places to come together. Laurieston Hall is located in Dumfries in South West Scotland. It has very large private grounds and is run by a resident community. We are looked after by members of the resident community. We help with cooking and washing up. There are around 65 beds. We are looked after by YHA staff who cook, wash up & clean for us. It has around 110 bunk style beds. Events at High Close have 50-55 men. Wasdale is located on Wastwater in the Lake District. It is a youth hostel which we take over completely. We are looked after by YHA staff who cook, wash up and clean for us. It has around 60 bunk style beds. Events at Wasdale usually have up to 33 men. The Nightingale Centre. We are using this venue for the first time this year. It is on the edge of the village in the Peak District amidst wonderful scenery & great walking country. Accommodation is in twin or single rooms & it is fully catered. We will be looked after by the centre's staff. We would be interested to hear about smaller venues, especially for weekend / short events. If you know of anywhere suitable please email the Maintenance Group at |
