Costs and payment

Our events are the only source of income for the Edward Carpenter Community (ECC). The cost covers accommodation, food, event expenses plus the cost of weeks includes a £25 contribution towards ECC running costs such as producing and distributing the newsletter, travel to meetings and insurance. All ECC administrative work is done by volunteers.

We want our events to be affordable to everyone. The lowest figure in the sliding scale is the bursary level, subsidised by people who pay higher amounts, and is intended for people who cannot afford the concessionary rate. A person is only allowed one event at the Bursary Rate per year. Please consider all your income when deciding what to pay. The scale can be used as a guide. Only you know your circumstances. We take on trust that you will pay what you think is appropriate to your circumstances. Please pay more if you can and less if you can’t. Don’t let the cost of, or travel to, an event be a barrier.

We ask people attending events based at Youth Hostels to pay ECC in full at least two months prior to the event, whenever possible, since the YHA is now asking for payment from ECC two months in advance. Those attending Laurieston Hall and other non- YHA events are asked to pay at least one month ahead of the event.

Bursaries

Bursaries are available to men who are not able to afford the concessionary rate. We believe it is important that men on very low incomes are able to be a part of our community and can therefore attend one event per year using a bursary. They also have the option of assistance with travel costs. Please contact an event’s booking person for more information.

Making payment

There are currently two ways of making payment: by cheque or by BACS payment through your bank.

If you’re paying by cheque please make it payable to: Edward Carpenter Community Ltd (please don’t abbreviate!).
