Grasmere Gay Men’s Week

20 – 27 August 2011

Grasmere Butharlyp Youth Hostel, The Lake District

The Grasmere week has now taken place. Our next event that is taking bookings is the Midwinter Celebration week.

YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe is a lovely, recently refurbished Victorian house with great views of the Rothay Valley and the fells. Although the house is secluded in its own grounds it has very easy access to Grasmere village with its cafes and shops. The vegetarian food is excellent, drinks are available from the bar and hot drinks will be available 24 hours a day. There will be no hot food at lunchtime – packed lunches for all! There is plenty of comfortable lounge space suitable for workshops and events. The comfortable bunk beds are in mixed size bedrooms. A private bookable space will be available.

The week will have all the usual elements including fellowship, walking, visits, workshops and a soiree. Members have already offered to lead the challenging walks that were a major, and very popular, feature of Grasmere 2010 and also gentler walks including some with strong Wordsworth connections. We are hoping, with your help, to repeat the success of last year’s soiree. Enthusiastic audience members appreciated as well as participants! There are great places to visit including John Ruskin’s beautifully-situated home, ‘Brantwood’ on the shores of Coniston Water.

If you have ideas for activities that you are willing to lead including walks, workshops, visits and events of any kind and/or if there are things that you would like to do but do not feel like organising please mention them on the booking form. It would be great to have your suggestions. A Yahoo discussion group will be set up nearer the time so that you can be fully involved in the detailed planning.

Come and have fun and fellowship at Grasmere. Robert Montgomery is handling the bookings for the week. John Browne and Ken Jarrold are the organisers for the week.
